With the release of ChevronWP7 users now have an accessible way of unlocking their Windows Phone devices (for a price), this is the official Microsoft Developer Unlock Tool and it doesn’t void your warranty. This is a great opportunity for Microsoft to get developers interested in the platform without having to pay $99 US Dollars or £65 UK, allowing users to install XAP files to your phone (kind of like unsigned SIS files for Symbian).
I already paid a token ($9 US dollars) and unlocked an HTC Surround so this should work the same way with your Nokia Lumia, the process seems to be simple, you just need to follow the on screen messages that the tool gives you, here’s a small guide:
- Go to http://labs.chevronwp7.com/
- Login using your Hotmail or Live account
- Get a Token by paying via Paypal ($9 US Dollars)
- Run the Unlock Tool (Provided on the page 32bit and 64bit available)
- Connect your Windows Phone with the MicroUSB to your PC and follow the instructions by running the tool

Does this software unlock the phone so that you can use all carriers or is it some other sort of unlocking?
no, this is only a Software Unlock, most of the time the carrier you bought it from has the unlock code, try calling them, some give you the code if you tell them you are traveling.
